How to clean your Skills Combined® Double Sided Powder Brush

Why is it important to clean your makeup brushes? Over time, makeup brushes accumulate dirt, oils from the skin, makeup residue, and dead skin cells. Without regular cleaning, these factors can lead to unwanted bacterial growth, which can result in irritated skin and even cause acne. In addition, a dirty brush can make it more difficult to achieve an even and professional application of makeup.

How often?

How often you clean your brushes depends on how often you use them and what type of product they are used for. For a powder brush used for bronzer, blush, and highlighter, the following guidelines may be helpful:

Weekly: For brushes used with powder products such as bronzer, blush, and highlighter, cleaning them once a week is sufficient.
Every other day: If you use your brush for cream products or liquid makeup such as foundation, you may want to consider cleaning it more often, perhaps every other day, as cream products tend to stick to the bristles more.
Regular cleaning helps keep your brushes fresh, reduces bacterial growth, and ensures even application of the products.

Start by holding the bristles down under running lukewarm water. Be careful to avoid getting water on the brush handle or where the bristles are attached, as this can dissolve the glue and weaken the brush over time. Take a small amount of soap/shampoo or a special brush cleaner (preferably antibacterial) and apply it to the palm of your hand.
Work up a lather: gently massage the bristles against your palm in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly: rinse the brush thoroughly under lukewarm water until all the lather is gone and the water running from the bristles is clear. Squeeze out excess water: gently squeeze the bristles with a clean towel to remove excess water. Be careful not to pull or tug on the bristles, as this can damage the brush. Dry the brush flat: lay the brush flat on a towel and allow it to air dry completely.

Tips

The Skills Combined® Double Sided Powder Brush has two different ends—a smaller, pointed side and a larger, rounded side—which requires some care when cleaning so as not to damage the shape and quality of the bristles.
